Dogtooth Calcite (#3)

A large Dogtooth Calcite specimen from Morocco, dominated by an impressive elongated crystal point surrounded by smaller calcite formations and natural matrix. The crystals range from milky cream to translucent pale honey, with textured growth patterns, natural surface markings and areas of iron-rich matrix creating plenty of character across the specimen. Its long, dramatic main point makes this a particularly striking display piece for a mineral collection.

Moroccan calcite specimens are commonly cleaned after mining using a mild acid solution to remove clay, excess iron oxide staining and remnants of surrounding matrix. This process helps reveal the crystal faces and enhance their natural clarity and colour, and can leave the calcite with a slightly waxy-feeling surface.
