Dogtooth Calcite (#2)

A natural Dogtooth Calcite specimen from Morocco, featuring two prominent pointed crystals with translucent smoky honey, olive-brown and pale cream colouring. The larger crystals show the distinctive elongated scalenohedral formation that gives Dogtooth Calcite its name, with natural internal veils, fractures and darker mineral inclusions adding character throughout.

Moroccan calcite specimens are commonly cleaned after mining using a mild acid solution to remove clay, excess iron oxide staining and remnants of the surrounding matrix. This helps brighten the exposed crystal faces and enhance their natural clarity and colour, and can leave the calcite with a slightly waxy-feeling surface.
